The Benefits of TAP DANCE
Why TAP Dance?
In addition to the benefits which go hand in hand with all dance styles, one of the best things about tap dance is its relaxed nature. With most other dance styles, executing a step requires a great deal of tension, while with tap, quite the opposite is the case - most tap steps require you to let go of the tension. That's not to say that it doesn't have the same strengthening and fitness benefits of other dance styles, but if you look at any video of Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly, notice how relaxed they appear, and how easy they make it look! In a way, tap doesn't take itself too seriously, while still being incredibly fascinating to watch, and tremendously fun to do.
Appropriate for all ages
On those same lines, tap dance is extremely popular with people of all ages - 5 to 105. It is a dance style that can look equally effective when performed intensely or calmly, and it doesn't require abnormal physical exertion, strength or flexibility, making it a perfect style for anyone interested in dance.
Specific physical benefits
Tap dance also comes with its own set of physical benefits. It specifically strengthens and tones the ankles, calves, legs, hips and buttocks, in addition to obvious cardio benefits.
Mental stimulation
Tap dance also increases cognitive ability, as well as mental and muscle memory.
It looks amazing, everyone loves to watch it, and above all.....
.....Tap dance is just so much fun. Give it a try.

Last note - read before attending any dance class
Any dance style you learn is a skill, and with any skill, the way to get better is to practice. No skill will come to you straight away - it takes time and a great deal of work, and in the end, you'll only get out what you put in.
Remember, you generally only have a small window available to you with your
dance teacher - make the best of it, and be ready to work. Remember your teacher can
only guide you - you have to put in the work yourself. Make a commitment to learning the
skill, to working on it and perfecting, and try not to miss classes. Think about ways to
ensure you keep going back to class.
Your body and your brain will thank you!
